Red Sox Love Playing Wall Ball
Posted by Dan Dumont on August 6th, 2008

Odd night in KC (Yahoo Sports) Apparently the Boston Red Sox have an affinity for tinkering with road teams parks, more specifically, the walls.

It all started back in New York and it involved Kevin Youkilis and Johnny Damon. During a series against the Yankees, Youkilis smashed a deep fly to left. Johnny Damon went backed and the ball deflected off his glove and literally sat on top of the wall. It was a whacky night in the Bronx. I play like that is one of the most odd plays you will ever see in baseball. You would think a play like that happens once in a million, and granted, it should.

    Not with these Red Sox.

If Boston’s fortunes weren’t peculiar enough, last night a similar incident happened, but what was more remarkable is that Jason Bay’s deep fly to left center deflected off CF Mitch "Don’t call me Jeffrey" Maier’s glove and rolled on top of the wall for a few seconds. The real Maier would of caught that ball and Bay would of been out. Fortunately for the Red Sox, this guys name is Mitch and not Jeffrey. If it wasn’t for a great play by left fielder Ross Gload, Bay may of notched his second HR as a member of the Boston Red Sox.

So be it, the Red Sox enjoy making miracles happen. Twice in one season they hit a ball that sits on top of an outfield wall.

Good news for the Red Sox, they won 8-2 and are now 4-1 since Jason Bay has joined the team. Things are looking up for the Sox. If they can make it past August, their September schedule is much more favorable than that of the Rays and the Yankees.

More home game = more wins. That’s all for now.

    I love this game.
